Hello!

My name is Kate. I have been an at-home educator for over 20 years and an online teacher for over 5 years. My family lives on a small homestead where we raise a large garden and, probably, too many chickens (Is that possible?). In 2003, I started homeschooling. My oldest son struggled with reading and I tried, what seemed like every available program at the time. My son was later diagnosed with a form of dyslexia by a vision therapist. We both learned a lot during those early years of homeschooling. During that time I studied several methods to teach reading, including an Orton-Gillingham style called the Spaulding Method. Toward the end of our learn-to-read journey, I heard of All About Reading. It was too late for us, but we did use All About Spelling. Later, I turned to All About Reading when it was time to teach my younger kids to read.

My teaching philosophy focuses on keeping learning fun and engaging. I do my best to meet students where they are, to notice their strengths, and to help them strengthen their weak areas.
